Jonas Thom, LPCC, is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Beechlands Group, a behavioral health strategy and operations consulting firm partnering with health plans, provider organizations, investors, advocacy groups, policymakers, and philanthropic leaders to strengthen systems of care for individuals with complex behavioral health needs. With more than 35 years of experience across Medicaid managed care, public health systems, and community-based provider settings, Jonas is recognized nationally for building high-performing behavioral health models that deliver measurable clinical outcomes while driving sustainable financial performance.
Jonas has led billion-dollar behavioral health lines of business and grown revenue from $100 million to more than $1 billion across five Medicaid markets. As Vice President of Behavioral Health at CareSource, he created and led the behavioral health division serving more than two million members, with accountability for product design, network strategy, utilization management, quality improvement, compliance, medical loss ratio performance, and overall P&L results. He led multi-state Medicaid implementations, transitioned plans from carve-out to fully integrated behavioral health models, implemented capitated and value-based payment arrangements, stood up Mental Health Parity compliance programs across multiple products, and consistently achieved top-tier quality and provider satisfaction scores.
On the provider side, Jonas has supported large community behavioral health networks in transitioning to clinically integrated models, advised addiction treatment organizations on market positioning and contracting strategy, and helped organizations redesign operating models to improve access, engagement, and financial sustainability. Earlier in his career, he created and led integrated primary and behavioral health and Assertive Community Treatment technical assistance centers that helped establish more than sixty high-fidelity ACT teams and expand integrated care sites across Ohio.
Through the Beechlands Group, Jonas also advises venture capital and private equity firms in evaluating behavioral health investments, assessing scalability within Medicaid markets, and operationalizing growth strategies for portfolio companies. He partners with philanthropic organizations to align capital deployment with measurable systems improvement, sustainable financing, and community-level impact. Known for translating complex policy, regulatory, and financing environments into clear and actionable strategy, Jonas brings a pragmatic, collaborative leadership style focused on expanding access, strengthening quality, and building resilient behavioral health systems grounded in whole-person care.
A proud Ohioan who has also lived for more than a decade in Kentucky and the Florida panhandle, Jonas values time with his wife and dog and wishes he could spend more time with his daughter in Chicago. Outside of work, he is an enthusiastic admirer of the Grateful Dead, German automotive engineering, and modern design.
